Abstract of the opening speech of Carl Aigner, art historian and founder of art magazine EIKON (youtube) held on the occasion of the exhibition INSIDE-OUT (with focus on abstract colorfield-photography), April 2012, Vienna, Austria.
"Photography is a medium that makes visible, above all, much that we cannot see with the naked eye. Harald Woschitz has been working for years on the surface
phenomenon of photography, taking a significant step further in his new work. namely, to look behind this surface. How does the medium work? In this case, it is no longer the classical photography,
but the digital photography and - in what way is there even created the possibility to generate a picture, a digital photographic image? With these questions
he arrives at a point where you can actually see that the photograph does not reflect anymore. The so-called "retinal of our reality" is thus essentially shifted to what I would almost call
the "unconscious of perception". Harald Woschitz manages to make something visible here, which is only possible through the power of this medium. Of course, at first
glance you will see the theme of light, that's what photography is all about. But what do I do with this phenomenon of light, and how can I use this phenomenon to develop, so to speak, something like
the power of photography? That's what Harald Woschitz does in a wonderful way in these works. In the first moment you will probably not even think about photography, but about color graphics
or other graphic-technical possibilities. But, because it is about the core of the photographic, about a writing of light, about a photograph, it demonstrates
that it can unfold an incredible impact that has nothing to do with what we started to believe in photography : that she seems to be able to bring reality to us so easily."

"Fotografie ist ein Medium, das sichtbar macht, vor allem vieles, was wir mit bloßem Auge nicht sehen können. Harald Woschitz hat begonnen, sich über Jahre mit dem Oberflächenphänomen der Fotografie zu beschäftigen. In den neuen Arbeiten geht er einen wesentlichen Schritt weiter, nämlich hinter diese Oberfläche zu schauen. Wie funktioniert das Medium? In diesem Fall ist es nicht mehr die klassische Fotografie, sondern die digitale Fotografie und in welcher Weise wird hier überhaupt die Möglichkeit geschaffen ein Bild, ein digitales fotografisches Bild zu generieren. Mit diesen Fragen kommt er an einen Punkt, wo Sie tatsächlich ersehen können, dass die Fotografie nicht mehr abbildet. Das sogenannte Retinale unserer Wirklichkeit wird also wesentlich verschoben zu einem, ich würde fast sagen, Unbewußten des Wahrnehmens. Es gelingt hier Harald Woschitz etwas sichtbar zu machen, was nur Kraft dieses Mediums möglich ist. Natürlich sehen Sie auf den ersten Blick das Thema des Lichtes, das ist ja überhaupt das, was die Fotografie ausmacht. Aber was mache ich mit diesem Phänomen des Lichtes und in welcher Weise kann ich aus diesem Phänomen sozusagen so etwas wie die Kraft des Fotografischen heraus entwickeln? Das ist das, was Harald Woschitz in ganz wunderbarer Weise in diesen Arbeiten gelingt. Sie werden wahrscheinlich auch, so wie es mir gegangen ist, im ersten Augenblick gar nicht an Fotografie denken, sondern die Farbgrafik oder an andere grafisch-technische Möglichkeiten. Aber, er demonstriert, weil es um den Kern des Fotografischen geht, um eine Schrift des Lichtes, um eine Fotografie, dass man damit eine unglaubliche Wirkung entfalten kann, die nichts mehr damit zu tun hat, woran wir mit der Fotografie zu glauben begonnen haben: dass sie uns scheinbar so unkompliziert Wirklichkeit vor Augen führen kann."
